Justice and Equity in Technology Policy
The University of Michigan has just launched a free online course on Justice and Equity in Technology Policy.
Designed for a wide range of learners from policymakers to STEM professionals, the course examines how technology and technology policies tend to reflect and reinforce social values, biases, and politics, and provides tools to help make the development and governance of technology more equitable and just. Through real-world cases across multiple technology sectors combined with scholarly insights, learners will also understand the history and complex landscape of technology policymaking as well as how to intervene effectively there as well as in technical design. Course content includes short lectures, readings, podcast episodes and other multimedia, short assessments and lengthier evaluations to encourage critical thinking about technology, equity, and justice. No prior scientific, technical, or policy background is necessary, and learners can register at any time.
