2023 PIT-UN Challenge

2023 PIT-UN Challenge

The PIT-UN Challenge first launched in 2019 to seed and support initiatives that grow public interest technology in higher education, particularly those that involve end-users and communities impacted by technologies in their development. In 2023, the Challenge will build on this foundation by focusing on two specific areas:

  • Educational Offerings, especially those that foster cross-disciplinary perspectives, and credential completion
  • Career Pipeline/Placement efforts to develop the Public Interest Technology workforce in government, industry and social impact organizations.

The PIT-UN Challenge will prioritize projects that center on the needs of communities that have historically been denied access to technologies, systematically left out of conversations at the intersection of technology and policy, and denied opportunities to join the technology workforce.

PIT-UN is inviting proposals in two funding tranches.

  1. Up to $90,000 for direct and indirect costs
  2. Up to $180,000 for direct and indirect costs

This is a limited submission funding opportunity, limiting the number of allowable submissions from UVA.
