We're bridging technology and the public interest

The Public Interest Technology University Network is a partnership that fosters collaboration among universities and colleges committed to building the nascent field of public interest technology and growing a new generation of civic-minded technologists. The network, founded in 2019 by New America, the Ford Foundation, and the Hewlett Foundation, has grown to having 48 members. Through the development of curricula, research agendas, and experiential learning programs in the public interest technology space, members of PIT-UN are trying innovative tactics to produce graduates with multiple fluencies at the intersection of technology and policy. More information can be found on New America's website.

UVA was one of the 21 founding members of PIT-UN. As a part of this larger network, UVA PIT-UN strives to promote programs and initiatives throughout the university that focus on technological innovations made where the public's interest is at the center.
